Royal Navy Coastal Command Airspeed Indicator - ASI Catalina or PBY poss Spitfire Specification - Stores Reference - 6A/585 (Dial Face) Serial - 17512/43 (Dial Face) Additional Marking - 1XE (Dial Face) Additional Marking - Small Letter "T" in white paint on back (8 o'Clock position in picture) Additional Marking - War Department "Arrow" moulded in case Additional Marking - P (Pressure) and S (Suction) moulded in case Additional Marking - White paint circle with hard to decipher marks - possibly - N, 6C, A Range - 0-340 Knots Click image or for a supersize image in pop-up window (Disable your pop up blocker - Hold CTRL or CTRL ALT) Description - That's right - KNOTS not MPH. The RAF didn't start to navigate in Knots till After WWII but this unit has a 1943 serial number. So that means it was probably off a Coastal Command or Naval Aircraft. So Spitfire lovers - this is NOT a Spitfire part but it MIGHT be for a Seafire. This unit was removed from a standard RAF Stores Part 6A/6 Blind Flying Panel which I acquired in Florida. The panel had a 1943 serial number on it too. For something with a 1943 serial number the case is stamped with the War Department Arrow and not the usual Crown which was discontinued in 1943.
