Amazing and very hard to find . . . 1958 Fine Royal Worcester Phoebe Sayornis Phoebe And Flame Vine Bird Figurine. Limited edition of 500. Features a phoebe perched below the vibrant flame vine. Stunning in color and life-like detail. Phobe Flame Vine figurine measures 9 1/2" in height. Vintage Royal Worcester marks on base. One missing leaf and another chip on a stem (please see pics..hard to see and both are on the backside). Otherwise, this piece of lovely Royal Worcester is in excellent vintage condition, and would be a welcome addition for any serious Dorothy Doughty collector. Enjoy!! A little background on Dorothy Doughty: Born in San Remo, Italy in 1892 Dorothy came to England with her father ( the English poet and the inspiration for 'Lawrence of Arabia ')and her sister Freda ( who was also to model for Royal Worcester ) as a young girl. She studied at the Eastbourne College of Art w she was to become a keen naturalist and Ornithologist. Dorothy is undoubtably one of the best known of all Worcester modellers and probably one of the finest 'wildlife' modellers of all time. Her complex studies of American and English birds set a new standard in wildlife realism and are justifyably famous.
