I have up for auction a real photo postcard from Wellington, Washington showing the horrible wreckage left by the snow slide in March 1, 1910. Two trains were trapped by the snow after they left Leavenworth Washington late February 19l0. Snow plows attempted to reach them, but were unable to do so and ran out of fuel. Food was running scarce and some of the passengers attempted to walk down the mountain. All who left made it to safety. On March 1st at 4:00 a.m. an avalanche buried both trains and toppled them down the mountain. Some of the train parts were unrecognizable. Bodies were buried and had to be recovered. In all 96 people perished, most of them Great Northern employees and construction workers in the area at the time. This postcard is unused and in excellent condition, and was with the collection that I have offered in this last week. This is the last card of this disaster- I just discovered it in the last few days. This is a great, but grim, piece of history to add to your postcard collection.
