Original Glass Plate NegativeR uins of San Luis Rey de Francia Mission - Ocean side, California Photographed by H. C. Tibbitts Vintage dry glass plate negative #1706, c.1915 - very good condition, light fading to the emulsion near the edges; no chips, craks, or other faults; plate is about 6 1/2" x 8 1/2". The overall scan in this listing is at a low resolution; the details are shown from a higher resolution look at the image. There is no print with this negative.Howard Clinton Tibbitts (1863-1937) was a San Francisco based photographer. Starting in 1892, he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He photographed extensively in the American West, Canada, and Mexico, documenting landscapes, towns, industry, agriculture, parks, pub li c buildings, and other local scenes to help promote Southern Pacific's passenger service. His work was showcased in the railroad's magazine SUNSET starting with first publication in 1898.
