In 1969, the USSR's Minister of Defense ordered that Russian Airborne Troops adopt the blue beret as headwear. In Soviet Guards Units, the beret was worn on the left on workdays, but moved to the right for military parades. Blue berets symbolize dignity, strength, and courage.
