Absolutely Awesome Catlinite Pipestone Frog Effigy Peace Pipe W/ Beaded Pipe Stem This is an excellent Catlinite Pipestone frog effigy peace pipe with an awesome beaded pipe stem. The overall length of this peace pipe is over 21 inches when attached. The pipe bowl is carved from Sacred Catlinite Pipestone into a beautiful frog effigy. The bowl itself measures approximately 4 3/8 inches long and stands approximately 1 3/4 inches tall. The frog in Native American culture symbolizes Wealth and Abundance! The stem is carved from hardwood and has leather wrapped at the ends of the glass beadwork. The beadwork is white, yellow, green and black and represents the four sacred colors of the White Mountain Apaches. The stem itself is a little less than 16 inches long not including the mouth and pipe inserts. The Native Americans did not smoke pipes for the sake of smoking as people do today. They believed smoking to be very spiritual and combined it with prayer and communion with the Great Spirit. That to me is what makes effigy pipes so interesting. There is always a reason for the particular effigy, not simply decoration. These pipes were always treated with great care and respect.
