We believe that this lacquered-wood sake cup dates from the 1920s or so. (Many other cups in the lot that it came with are specifically dated from around the 1920s, with a few somewhat older.) The hand-painted design on the inside is the crest of Japan's National Police Agency (although it may have been called something else in the 1920s), above which is written "Hyoushou" ("Commendation"), while below the lip on the outside is written "Ibaraki-ken" ("Ibaraki Prefecture"). T is no maker's mark. T are no significant cracks or chips to either the lacquer or the wood underneath it, although t is a little dustiness on the inside as well as a few spots of what looks like oxidation on the darker portions of the crest, and some minor spots of wear on the gold leaf at the lip.
