This is an original painting on panel. The materials are acrylic, sheet rock, colored pencil, graphite, oil and oil paint. The piece has a lovely surface which is worked laboriously through painting, scraping, buffing, with many layers of paint. I usually begin with acrylic paint and finalize it with oil paint which adds the lusciousness and richness to the images and surface. The butterfly subject relates the the transience of life, the beauty and wonder of nature and the desire for freedom, transformation and joy. The subject relates to the beauty and wonder of nature and our need to sustain it for future generations. Nature: trees, flowers, botanicals, butterflies, birds, branches, landscapes, figures in nature, animals, insects and leafs are all motifs that are discovered and re-discovered in my work. My paintings reflect the changes in nature the fragility and the complexity of a single branch of a crooked tree of a flower in all of it's glory, of the amazing patterns displayed on a butterfly or beetle, of a tree arching it's back and of us in the midst of a botanical dream.
