For your consideration is this very unusual specimen of red Bastnasite-(Ce) replacing Allanite-(Ce) from the Oregon #2 Pegmatite, South Platte District, Jefferson County, Colorado. A great specimen from this locality which has been cut on one side as seen to show the fascinating psuedomorphism process in which a 'core' of fairly unaltered Allanite progressively alters to a 'rind' of red bastnasite. Measures ~10,000 CPM on my Ludlum Model 3 Counter with the 44-9 Probe, due to trace U/Th. Very Rare!! Specimen Dimensions: 8 x 5 x 5 cm. Weight: 331 grams.
