Large, scarce and heavy silver regimental medal to the 26th Regiment of Foot (Cameronians), on its original clip and suspension, with an early (probably original) ribbon (it is the ribbon described in Balmers - see below). The medal is listed in Balmer's 'Regimental and Volunteer Medals, Volume 1 (Regular Army)', Page 139 (R265) - I have pictured the Balmer entry below. The medal is by 'Rundell Bridge & Rundell' (marked on the reverse in exergue), perhaps the most prestigious silversmiths, medalists and jewelers of their time ( appointed as Royal Goldsmiths, Silversmiths, Jewelers and Medalists in 1797, they held the Royal Warrant until 1843). Headed by Paul Storr, still regarded as one of the great Silversmiths.According to Balmer, the medal was issued in two types - silver and bronze (this being the silver version). The medal was established by the Cameronians then Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Oglander. This medal is not named to an individual (as issued). The medal is nicely toned and beautifully detailed, including the Cameronians Regimental Colours (with "Cameronian 26 Regiment" and battle honours "Egypt" and "Corunna" clearly visible).
