Scarce French Mle1878 Navy "Fusile de Marine" Kropatschek Bayonet & Scabbard Description: This auction is for a Scarce French Mle1878 Navy "Fusile de Marine" Kropatschek Bayonet & Scabbard . I'm hating to let this one go, but am trying to consolidate and make sense of my collection. And, getting older...., :-( For reference on the bayonet see Janzen - Page 70, No. 3. Looks to have a date or Regiment scratched into oe grip..., appears to be "12 IV 13 or 18." The French model 1878 bolt action rifle is basically a Gras rifle with a Kropatschek magazine system. The French Navy had its Mle 1878 rifles (several thousand) built in Austria by the De Werndl manufacture in Steyr, the bayonets were also provided by De Werndl. The 1878 bayonet is identical to the Gras bayonet but for the straight back of the handle, there should also be an anchor stamped on the bayonet, close to the SN.. Condition: P hotos show the condition well. Nice clean example with non-matching number scabbard. Set has had a lacquer put on it. Probably has kept it safe . Can easily be cleaned off if desired. . Details: Shipping is $7.95 SH&I in the Continental US. Please email with any questions and thanks for looking!
