Up for auction is an art print I fell for, but know nothing more than a few hard facts about. In the lower left-hand corner is the artists name, but I can't quite make it out or the artist was obscure. The print was produced by Brown and Bigelow in 1925 and is characterized as a Tintogravure. When I found this the glass was a little hazy, the frame was weakened at two corners, there was no dust protector, the nails were beginning to eat into the backboard, and there was paint on the glass where the frame had been touched up (I think) many years ago. All that said, the colors were still vibrant, the frames wood still beautifully detailed, and the print in surprisingly wonderful shape. There are a few chips out of the edges and a small chunk in the lower right-hand corner missing (not visible framed). As with many of the pieces I pick up, my goal here was to restore and preserve this 90 year old piece for another 90 years! To that end, I reinforced the frame, thoroughly cleaned the glass, placed a sheet of dark-green acid-free paper between the art and the back board, refastened the backboard with modern framing hardware, put on a new dust protector, and hung it with not just one but two methods for hanging...
