Science Comics # 1 - True Science Illustrated Comics From The Golden Age ! Science Comics # 1, 1951 - GD 2.8 - Canadian Edition Another interesting find: Science Comics # 1 , subtitled True Science Illustrated. This Canadian comics featured science adventure type stories as well as true science features and fact based articles. The copy I own, differs from the the scan that shows up on the Grand Comics Database in two ways: It is cut differently, t is less space at the top between the rocket ship and the edge, and t is no date or number underneath the title. My guess would be that this is the true Canadian edition, not the one that was imported into the US and distributed by Kable News Co. The indica is on the bottom back cover and displays that this is Volume 1, # 1, but no date. A true rarity. So, from the man on the moon cover, to the interior stories that have a pedagogical slant, we have a very nice copy. First up, we have Dave Keene and Doctor Franklin exploring the exciting possibilites of a Rocket To The Moon . One paragraph that caught my eye has Doctor Franklin saying, "Yes, Dave, it is quite possible that within 25 years, maybe sooner, that a picked group of physically perfect keen-minded young scientists will attempt to reach the moon and begin a great new era for mankind, the conquest of space." well, it didn't quite happen that way, but t's still hope. The features that follow: We have a fact-based story called A Natural Science Feature on Bats and their built in radar. Remember this was the late 40's / early 50's so perhaps the military hadn't yet announced sonar. Next, a biography of sorts of Leonardo Da Vinci . This feature is titled Great Men Of Science . This is followed by a story titled Trapped By The Electric Eye . Based on true scientific data, the brilliant young scientist builds an electric eye to capture an amazingly clever thief. The beginings of the alarm company. Next we have a one page Professor Gregory Black's Scientific Report w he answers science questions sent in by readers and Professor Gregory Black's Science Forecast w he plays psychic and tells us about advanced two-way televison occuring in the near future. Next we have another story called Science In The Sky about air travel. This is followed by Dave Keene's Laboratory , with Dave demonstrating gravity. Lastly we have a one pager called Science Sketches . This issue is completely unrestored and I am the original owner . From a smoke-free home. Important Note: This is the Canadian Printing/Edition published in Canada by Export Publishing. Condition Science Comics # 1, 1951 - Good 2.8 Export Publishing Enterprises. Printed in Canada. 36 pages. Scarce. - The interior pages are at OWL 8 with slight tanning to edges. Some of the interior pages have ragged edges due to inefficient cutting at the printing plant. - The front cover has tiny nicks at all edges. The right and bottom edges have multiple tears and chipping. The top corner has a tiny triangular tear and slight crease mark, the bottom corner is rounded and has a crease mark as well. Small pencil store date in the S of the title. Faint crease at bottom edge and near bottom of spine. Light dust shadow at top edge and light water stain at top right edge. - The spine is very slighty rolled and has staple stress and nicks. Slight tearing around staples and abraded ends. Bottom end has a small tear. - The back cover has edge nicks, multiple small tears at left and bottom edges, light dust shadow at top edge, mild toning and slight wear near spine. ... read more
