Wonderful whimsical scrimshaw button.Lady riding a polar bear, lots of gorgeous detail.The design is etched into the button, then inked and hand buffed.Material is resin.This is an ancient technique using modern ingenuity and artistry.Applied metal shank on the reverse for sewing or mounting for a collection.
