Gen. CHAUNCEY McKEEVER (1829 – 1901) CIVIL WAR WEST POINT UNIONBRIGADIER GENERAL, COLONEL, CHIEF OF STAFF TO MAJOR GENERAL SAMUEL P. HEINTZELMAN & AAG ON THE STAFF OF MAJOR GENERAL & WESTERN EXPLORER, JOHN C. FREMONT!! McKeever also served in the Indian Seminole War, Taught Mathematics at West Point Military Academy, Fought Indians in the West, and Went on the Utah Expedition. In the Civil War’s Pennisular Campaign he was Chief of Staff for the III Corps, fighting at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Oak Grove, Glendale, Malvern Hill, and 2 nd Bull Run. He retired in 1893 with the regular Army rank of Colonel! Here’s an Extremely RARE CIVIL WAR DATE [March 31, 1862] AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED [ALS] by McKEEVER executed at Head Quarters 3 rd Corps, Hampton, Virginia to BRIGADIER GENERAL, C. S. HAMILTON, Commanding Division regarding welcoming the “…guard from Porters Division at the New Bridge with a guard from your Division, and to have the bridge repaired; Captain Thomas has been ordered to send planks there for that purpose…” BOLDLY EXECUTED & SIGNED BY GEN. McKEEVER!!! This document measures 5” x 8” and is in VERY GOOD CONDITION, with paper folds, slight wrinkling to the paper, and tape repairs on the verso which do not show through on the front of the letter.
