Up for auction is a historic and very rare 28mg Sena meteorite fragment that comes from the Sena meteorite fall that fell in Aragonia Spain, November 17, 1773, nearly a 240 years old meteorite fall making Sena the first and oldest known fall from Spain. According to translations from the documents in the archives of the National Museum of Natural Science in Madrid the fall at Sena took place around noon on November 17, 1773. Three loud detonations were heard and the sounds "frightened farmer's mules so that they stopped eating and began rioting." The smell of sulfur also lingered in the air. Shortly thereafter, a man named Miguel Calvo discovered a mysterious stone on the property of his neighbor, Francisco Gonzalez. He first moved it with his hoe and then by hand, but withdrew immediately because the stone was "very hot." The stone had apparently bounced leaving a shallow hole in the soft ground. Some of the stone was missing and could not be found. After the stone cooled it was brought to Sena, where it was presented to the priest Antonio Pano. The stone was "weighed on a Roman balance and given a weight of nine pounds and one ounce." After news of the stone spread, many residents came to see it and break small pieces off , reducing the weight of the stone to eight pounds and nine ounces. Two days after the fall, a man named Manuel La Cassa found two additional pieces in a garden area of Real Monasterio. Here is your chance to own a piece of history that started it all in Spain. "The sky being perfectly serene, three reports, resembling those of cannon, were heard, and followed by the fall of a stone, weighing nine pounds and one ounce, at a little distance from two labouring men.' One of them went up to it; but the strong smell whicjt it emitted stopped him for a moment. Recovering from his surprise, he went nearer, heaved it up with his spade, and waited till it was sufficiently cold for him to carry it to the village, where he delivered it to the priest. "From inquiries made immediately afterwards on the spot, and among the people in the neighbourhood, it appears that the noise in the air and fall of the stone were not accompanied with any storm or with lightning."
