For Sale: Set of 4 Very Old Almanacs. This set includes: 1800 (Old) Farmer's Almanac (missing front cover), 1825 (Old) Farmer's Almanac, 1857 Leavitt's Old Farmer's Almanac, and 1896 Leavitt's Farmer's Almanac. They are in various conditions (see photos) but all are able to be opened and read. *An interesting fact bout the 1800 Farmer's Almanac: The year 1800 marks the first in which the Right-Hand Calendar pages of the Almanac were illustrated -- twelve different designs, one for every month. These rectangular wood engravings, full of figures at work and play, each show a rural activity appropriate for the time of year. The cuts, used only through 1803, have a simple, primitive style and contain no initials to identify the engraver. The twelve monthly illustrations shine as energetic, enthusiastic -- and to observers at a 200-year distance, exquisite -- renderings of early American farm life. I have included photographs of some of these charming engravings in the photos above. These almanacs are a quaint and beautiful slice of Old America -- enjoy! The almanacs are sold as is.
