SETH THOMAS ANTIQUE ADAMANTINE SIX COLUMN MANTLE CLOCK. CIRCA 1900. Up for bid is this beautiful Seth Thomas clock. I purchased it at an estate auction recently. The cabinet is wood with an adamantine finish. Adamantine is a plastic or celluloid like product that was applied over the wood. This process was patented about 1873. It is the hardest finish that I have seen on antique clocks. This one is black adamantine with green marble effect adamantine. There is some fading on the green adamantine due to age and probably sun fading. There are some knicks and dings in the finish, but I have touched most of them up. I have polished the adamantine to a high shine, so that it looks very close to when it was new. The ornaments that hold the marbleized columns are bronze colored metal as are the feet and lions on the ends of the cabinet. The dial shows some age, but is the original. The bezel closes nicely. The clock runs on an 8 day signed Seth Thomas movement and it appears to have been cleaned recently. I have oiled and adjusted it and installed a new suspension spring which the pendulum hangs on. The clock strikes on the half hour on a cup bell and on the hour on a cathedral gong. The clock measures 18" wide, 11 1/4" tall and 7 1/4" deep. Don't miss out on a bid on the beautiful clock. It displays beautifully as you can see in my pictures. read more
