Offered is a pair of elegant 9.25 inch soup bowls or plates produced by Sevres for Emperor Napoleon III. This is the Imperial Service, the highest quality white porcelain with gold borders and the Emperor's elaborate gold monogram in the center. Sevres produced a set of the Imperial Service for all the Emperor's palaces, or chateaux, and periodically made partial orders to replace broken china. Each plate features two marks on the reverse. In the center is the green-black mark showing the date Sevres produced the plain white bowl. One bowl is marked S61 (1861) and one bowl is marked S67 (1867). Napoleon's N, surmounted with a crown, bears the date when the blank white bowl was ornamented with the Imperial Service decorations. The 1861 bowl was decorated in 1862 and the 1867 bowl was decorated in 1869.These supremely elegant bowls measure 9 1/4 inches across. It is the pure white and smooth finish porcelain one expects from Sevres, with a decoration of rich gilt borders around the rim and at the base, just above the foot. The gilt decoration is in crisp and unworn condition. Both bowls are in excellent condition.$15 s&h via Priority Mail to continental US buyer.
