Among the thousands of fake and forged pieces purporting to derive from the illustrious French munufactory of Sevres this small cup stands out as the real thing. It has the superb gilding that is associated with Sevres and the 10 roundles are intricately painted by Messieur Jean Merault Sn. Inthe year 1769. The cup also has the small hole under the rim that was used to support the item when the firing took place. This method was used solely by Sevres and is always a sign of authenticity .condition the painting and gilding are in brilliant condition. It has a small black dot or "Frit" from the charcoal fired kiln a sign again of the great age of the item . There is a small repaired chip to the base which in no way takes from its display.
