You are bidding on a Shapleigh DE Diamond Edge 3 1/2 lb Double Bit Axe Tool The axe head was recently obtained from an estate sale, and appears to have been well cared for.I believe this is an early Shapleigh Hardware of St. Louis, MO. Diamond Edge axe . The axe is stamped on one side DIAMOND EDGE FORGED TOOL STEEL. The axe head is 9 1/4" wide, with a 4 1/8" wide blade, and weighs approx 4 lbs., and 14 ozs., including the handle, I believe the head is 3 1/2 lb.I believe the handle is original; and has been sanded and refinished close to original color and finish. Notice the handle about 11" up from head end, it is darker than the rest of the handle, I believe way back when it was stored in a wrapped cloth with oil on it, as when I sanded it the wood had an oily residue and the wood had turned darker. The axe is in good condition . I touched up the blade and it is very sharp. As with the vintage of the axe, t is minor pitting, normal wear and a few dings, all as noted from the photos. The amber color in photos is due to camera flash. The axe would be a great enhancement to any collection or use it as an actual axe .
