I'm pleased to offer this fine Magnetite crystal from the Bentley Lake occurrence, Madawaska (Faraday) mine, near Bancroft, Ontario, Canada. This single crystal measures 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 x 1 inches or about 3.3 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm and is in excellent condition! These dark and slightly rough magnetite crystals have long been collected from surface pits and prospects near Bentley Lake on the Madawaska mine property. This particular specimen is from the collection of Robert Nowakowski of Michigan. Bob has been deaccessioning some of his non-Michigan material in his collection and I've been fortunate to snag some of his specimens at the Tucson Show the past couple of years. Bob is one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable collectors one could meet and it has been a great joy to obtain specimens from him and pick his brain about Midwest and Canadian minerals in particular. The specimen comes with his show label. The Madawaska mine magnetites are never as sharp as the venerable classics from Switzerland or the newer pieces from Bolivia but I've always loved these beautiful uglies! The locality was known as the Faraday mine when it was operated during the uranium boom of the mid-1950's to the early 1960's.
