This auction features an interesting discovery that was collected from a shell pit in Sarasota County, Fla. about 15 years ago. The skull appears to be from an older species of horse that was in the area during the late Pliocene period some 2 milllion years ago which may have been from the some last three toed horses in the region. It appears to have a smaller area for the brain cavity unlike Equus which went extinct in the area after the last Ice Age. It appears that the water that it was in had a lot of iron or sulfuras evidenced by the color of the skull. It measures 18 inches in length, seven inches in width and about 5 inches in height. It has 12 upper molars and two partial incisors. The teeth are in good condition, but t is a lot of sediment in them that could be removed. It is in its natural state except for being cleaned off. It makes for a great converstion. That's for sure!!!
