You are bidding on one Shiverick & Company wood handrail or handrail wreath molding or moulding plane as pictured.It is marked "SHIVERICK & CO BROOKLYN" on the front end, and unmarked on the back end. Overall length of the body is about 9-1/2".It has the double irons as can be seen, and both irons are marked "DWIGHTS FRENCH & CO WARRANTED CAST STEEL", but both marks are much taller than the tails of the irons are wide.David Shiverick made planes under this imprint from 1865 to 1867 in Brooklyn, New York. Please see the book American Wooden Planes 4th Edition for more information about him, and it rates this mark as two stars for rarity.And please see John Whelan's book The Wooden Plane pages 373-374 for a discussion of handrail and handrail wreath planes. I have seen a lot of handrail planes over the years, collected them for a while, but have never seen a double iron handrail plane that I can remember.Condition is very good, with a variety of minor dings and scratches in the wood.
