Exceptional and rare Arts & Crafts period quartersawn oak and slag glass table lamp, hand crafted at Oscar Onken's Shop of the Crafters in Cincinnati, Ohio. Wonderfully designed form with Native American Style arrow cutouts, and deeply carved spade motifs carved into all four sides. This is heavy and substantial, and far exceeds the caliber of the many more commonly found oak and slag glass lamps from this period. Original fumed oak finish on heavy quartersawn oak with excellent ray-flake. Whitish green slag glass is all original, with no cracks or damage, and glows a pearly emerald when lit. Unmistakably Shop of the Crafters, this is signed with an ink stamped mark under the base, a bit hard to decipher, but clearly identifiable [see pic] when compared to the paper label from their catalog reprint. Rewired some time in the past with period reproduction cloth cord. The lamp is in great shape, is tight, sits without wobble and is without damage save some extremely slight edgewear. Original socket, pull chain and other fittings. Shade simply lifts off its iron attachment pins which will allow easier and safer shipping. Lamp measures an impressive 23 inches tall overall. The shade is 14 inches square, and the base measures a full 13 inches at its widest. This is a fabulous and distinctive example of both Arts & Crafts design and execution. read more
