Even the less elaborate unsigned examples are getting very hard to come by, due to their fragile nature, however wonderful early signed pieces such as this exquisite parlor lamp featuring the most stunning slag glass shade are almost unheard of! Parlor lighting the likes of this fine example was a staple in turn of the century life that eminated ones wealth and privilege! As such these lovely decorative treasures were heavily adorned and examples by high end makers and master craftsman like Jefferson were the paramount! A lamp of this caliber is not only functional - it is a work of art! What a wonderful thing, when an antique not only serves function, to illuminate that dark corner in your library, great room, or master suite - but also serves as an ornamental piece that will surely become the highlight of any decor!As evidenced in the photos below the lamp is well signed, Jefferson, and features an eye-catching leaded shade over slag glass in softly marbelized tone of the palest green. The slag glass shade is in fine condition with no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs. The burnished patina of the shade, notched edges and detailed medallion motif suggest a Victorian interpretation of a classical style. A figurehead of possible royal origin is centered in each of the six sections of the shade. The urn shaped base echos the classical motif. Graceful and proportionate, the addition of a fluted design at neck and base adds interest. The softest antique bronze finish adds just enough body and depth to yeild a warm honey glow when the lamp is lit. The lamp retains almost all of it's original paint with only very minor wear to the base, noticeable only on close inspection.
