Joe McDonald (10 February 1929 – 2003) was a Scottish footballer who played for Sunderland and the Scotland national football team . He was born in Blantyre , Scotland . Club career He started his footballing career with Falkirk in 1951, and went on to make 79 appearances without scoring for the club before moving to Sunderland in 1954. McDonald made his debut for Sunderland on 16 April 1954 in a 2–2 draw against Sheffield United at Roker Park . While playing for Sunderland, he made 155 appearances, scoring one goal. He joined Nottingham Forest ; and made 109 appearances for them from 1958 until 1961 without a goal, playing in the 1959 FA Cup Final and Charity Shield .
