Limited to only 500 Signed by London, whereas this is number 461 as so indicated on the Colophon page. Foreword by John Hayes Holmes. Featuring 59 silhouette portrait plates, this finely printed volume also includes chapters pertaining to methods of taking the profile portrait, profiles of William Bache taken by mechanical means, hollow-cut profiles, Fevret de Saint-Memin, wax portraits, William James Hubard, Augustin Edouart, William Henry Brown, plus more. This also includes a list of illustrations, a bibliography and a complete index. Bound in blue quarter cloth over papercovered boards with gilt lettering to the cover and spine. Very good condition; some pages uncut.
