The inventor Victor Silson: well known for its World War II patriotic pieces, operated from the late 1930’s to at least 1950. a British citizen often lived and worked in New York in the 1940's when Britain was already at war. The U.S. had not yet been attacked or entered into the war when Silson designed his series of brooches many of which were sold to benefit war-relief organizations. As you can see by the pictures t is minor wear to the enamel. The brooch measures 3 inches by 2.5 Some of his Awesome pieces are featured on pages 57 & 58 & 185 of A "Tribute to America" by Roberto Brunialti. Marked and impressed on the reverse:another Book Reference ~ Featured in Kathy Flood's book "Warman's Costume Jewelry Figurals" She notes that "The pins marked Silson are the most refined castings..."
