For your consideration is a SOLID SILVER ATHLETICS MEDAL that forms part of a wonderful collection I will be listing over the next 14 days or so. The entire collection belonged to the recipient J G STUBBS who appears to have enjoyed a prolific running career, particularly in the 1920's and 1930's, participating in middle and long distance running, and later in the organistaion and administering of running events. I have googled him and various details are available online. The vast majority of medals are engraved to the rear with the runners name, event, time etc and he appears to have represented a number of London Running Clubs, some of which no longer exist. Many of the medals are housed within their original vintage medal boxes and are hallmarked silver or bronze and enamel. This particular auction is for a SOLID SILVER and ENAMEL MEDAL with the inscription "MIDDLESEX COUNTY AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION". To the rear is engraved "20 MILES ROAD RUNNING RACE, 1937, 2nd J G STUBBS". The medal is approximately 35mm x 29mm and weighs 13.9 grammes. Contains a very crisp SILVER hallmark.
