Postage details of this very heavy item - especially courier details for overseas bidders- are at the end of this description before the main batch of photographs Scroll down to see a selection of photographs at the end of this description Welcome You will be bidding for :- A truly prestigious 56 piece vintage Canteen of 'bone' handled and high quality silver plated cutlery in the Sandringham pattern and seated in a very good qualityArt Deco Solid Wood Box [Light Oak] with a black felt interior. A excellent canteen in every way. Six each of:- Knife Dinner Knife Dessert Fork Dinner Fork Dessert Spoon - dessert Spoon - strawberry Spoon Soup Spoon - table [1] Spoon - Tea Spoon coffee or egg Butter knife The photographs give an excellent idea of the great condition of this extremely heavy item.[8kg+] Photographs could have been better if I knew how to combat the winter sun!! All the knives are in the style of the palette knife - that is with straight sides and the D ending . Flexible blades. The Egg bolsters. All Dinner blades marked Hiram Wild Cutlers Sheffield Stainless. The dinner knives are 24.3 cms. [9.5"] The dessert knives being 21cms. Despite a visible grain it is likely that handle composition is Ivorine composition[ a man made composite made to resemble Ivory also termed xylonite]. Although this is a set from the 1940's imitation Ivory has been produced since the late 1860's. The patination of the handles is something that can only be achieved with time. The flatware is marked :- EPNS Super A Sheffield - the very best quality and it shows when you handle it. A feel of real quality. You will see from the photographs that everything sits well in the case . The inclusion of the butter knife and strawberry spoons means that afternoon tea will be an extra treat!. Condition notes. The box is in excellent condition with good quality hinges. There is wear where the dinner forks fit - see photo. A real bonus is that the key is present and works well. The cutlery is of course used. There is a substitute dessert knife and a second knife has a 'bent' end to the blade so although I will leave it in, I have included a substitute for it. A couple of pitt marks on the bowl of the serving spoon. All in all a wonderful and complete canteen that sits together very well. The wood grain is quite striking so you will not be disappointed showing off the set. A deco feel to the veneers. A n elegant item to grace the ultra modern dining room just as much as a traditional setting.
