Sale Date: 3/9 & 10/02 No. of Lots: 964 No. of Pages: 196 Condition: Excellent Skinner's held the sale of the late Frank Jedlicka's glass collection on March 9 and 10 at its Bolton, Massachusetts, facility. Advertised as one of the most important sales of American glass produced by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in the past decade and a half, the sale lived up to its billing. The collection held some extremely rare glass, as well as some fine examples of unusual colors and forms. The sale grossed $908,298.50. Frank Jedlicka was an interesting man, an avid sailor and skier. He crewed on tall ships, was a food and wine connoisseur, and owned a winery in Vermont. He collected in a number of categories, but his glass collection became his passion beginning in the late 1980's. He was not afraid to go for broke when a rare object appeared. At a Boos Gallery sale in Michigan on February 10 and 11, 1999, Jedlicka paid a record auction price for any Sandwich glass object when he won a rare 1835-55 silvery blue pressed and blown standish (desk tray with ink, sander, and trough for pen) for $52,900.
