These are Michigan specimens. It is slag glass that was a waste product from iron foundries in the 1800's. The slag was dumped into the lake as a stabalizer for the pilings. It has become a desireable and relatively rare specimen for jewelers and collectors. It is porous and can range in color from almost corn flower blue to a blue green. This shows just a part of the range of colors it can be. Some of these pieces have been tumbled to remove the fractured portions. They range in size from about 3.25" to 2" in length, and from about 4.25 oz. to 1.25 oz. Their combined weight is about 13.53 oz. They were photographed both wet and dry in natural light. Photos 1 & 2 are a side by side comparison of the wet dry photos. Two sides of each stone are shown in the photos.
