Slater Brothers, Antique, English, Multi-Blade, Horseman's Knife. 3 1/2" closed length, Six blades and a curved hoof pick, including a cork screw, punch awl, drill bit, three cutting blades and tweezers. The master blade tang is stamped "VENTURA SLATER BROTHERS" . A small pen blade is marked Germany, and is an old replacement and not original. The curved pick which folds into the frame of the knife has teeth on the bottom inside, opposite to a cutout in the handle. This unusual feature is so the arm of the hook can double as a nut cracker. The handle scales are aged stag horn with a nickle silver bar shield and threaded niickle silver bolsters. The tweezers fit into a slot in the botom of the handle scales. Slater Bros. date from 1858-1901 in Sheffield, England and this knife has no country of origin stamp which dates it before 1895 when all foreign imported items were required to be marked. Condition; About good condition but showing age & wear. The master blade is worn down to approx. 70% and all the blades are dark with age and corrosion but still close with a snap. The stag handles are cracked at the bottom pin and have a chip missing. This is an interesting old antique from the Victorian Era and very collectable.
