We have here a tiny, finely carved Victorian cameo brooch. The carving depicts a maiden (possibly Flora?) and is in very high relief. The cameo itself is without any flaws or stress lines that I can see (the white ‘shadow’ in front of the goddess’ face is a reflection or trick of the light and is not actually present on the brooch). The brooch was bought by my mother-in-law as tested 9ct gold and the pin appears to be likewise. There is a safety chain attached but this is untested. The brooch measures approx. 1in x 0.75in. This is in excellent condition, although the pin (which is a good strong one with a barrel hinge and ‘C’ clasp’) could do with a little adjustment, as it is slightly loose. Over the next few weeks we shall be selling a sizeable quantity of my mother-in-law’s collection of vintage and antique jewellery, as well as a few other bits and pieces (presumably so that she can clutter up the house with more!). Please see our other listings. Please note that any jewellery boxes that may appear in photographs in our listings are for display purposes only. Thank you for looking at our auctions. Please bear in mind that our items are all vintage or antique and will bear some normal slight to moderate signs of use or wear. We are not experts but we will always try to describe any noticeable faults accurately. Of course, read more
