Antique Doll Trunk Antique Doll’s Trunk We found this adorable old doll trunk at a Maine estate auction. The little wooden trunk is dome topped and covered with decorative paper. There is one black metal horizontal band that encircles the lid, but all of the vertical black strips are faux and are printed on the paper. This trunk stands 9” (22.9 cm) tall, and has base dimensions of 13 7/8” by 8 5/8” (35.2 cm by 21.9 cm). The trunk still has its inner tray with one lidded compartment. The key that comes with it needs to be jiggled a bit, but it does lock the trunk. we found no manufacturer’s marks on this piece. This antique trunk was obviously much loved as it is in fair condition, with some flaws acquired from years of play. The leather handle is broken on one side and completely missing on the other. The inner lining paper is stained and has small sections missing. The paper on the inner lid was repaired with kraft paper on its lower edge. The insert tray still has its compartment lid, but the hinge on this lid is torn. There is a cotton ribbon or tape that once held the lid in an upright position, but it is broken off now. The inner tray barely rests on the two shelf runners. It can be positioned straight, but it will shift and sit askew if the trunk is moved.
