This is a beautiful little Makah/Nootka basket at 2 1/2" across and 1 1/2" high. The basketmaker for this cedar bark and beargrass basket was definitely a master! The pattern is a flower on the lid with small flowers around the side of the basket. With the lid on, the brown rim on edge of the lid and the brown weaving on the side of the basket very skillfully frame the flowers top and bottom. The basket condition is as follows: The rim on the basket is completely intact and solid. The lid is perfect. The sides of the basket are also in excellent condition. The bottom of the basket has been nibbled at, with only the surface grass removed - the cedarbark is all intact and the bottom is solid, so this would be a minor repair if someone chose to have it restored. However, none of the "nibbles" show when the basket is displayed - and the basket displays beautifully, with fine weaving and good color. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
