This is the camel carousel put out by the Smithsonian collection of carousel animals as a christmas ornament. All of these photos are taken as the item is in the box so remember you are looking through the plastic box as you view the item. The box bottom probably had a short lid and a thin cardboard base for the bottom which is missing. The carousel has never been removed from the box as the scotch tape is still in place. The plastic box has some scuffs. Inside the top lid is the folded paper original to the piece which describes the carousel animals in this series. The small black Kurt Adler sticker is still on the gold hang cord and the larger gray Smithsonian tag describing the carousel is still on the same hang cord. The paper insert in the top describes the camel as : This unique one humped Asian Camel, ca. 1880-1890, was carved by C.W.F. Dare Co., a noted manufacturer of exotic carousel animals. By standing staionary, the Camel separated itself from the surrounding animals that moved up and down. The camel is part of the Eleanor and Mable Van Alsyne collection of American Folk Art housed at the National Museum of American History. The camel carousel is in excellent condition as it has not been removed from the original box. The carousel pole is 6" long. Vibrant colors and good quality work.
