Large Miniature. we are offering one of the specimens that are featured (pictured) in: A Field Guide to Topaz & Associated Minerals from the Thomas Range Utah. This 'offer' also includes a full and 'autographed' copy of the published field guide to collecting in the world famous Thomas Range (Topaz Mnt.) Utah). This book has loads of information on the minerals, geology and collecting in the famous Thomas Range (Topaz Mountain) in Utah. This book was written and published by the members of topazminer. This smooth opaque topaz crystal is a special crystal oddity of the Thomas Range. This is a doubly terminated crystal and has several small garnet crystals that have been replaced by hematite perched in the topaz. The smooth opaque topaz are NOT pseudomorphs but rather perfectly formed topaz crystals that are included with microscopic quartz crystals. The micro quartz crystals were formed by the chemical reaction of the original volcanic gases with the feldspar associated with the rhyolite. The result is countless micro crystals of quartz completely enclosed within the topaz crystal. The outside surfaces of the topaz crystal are completely smooth since the quartz inside the topaz.
