Large Bust Out Snake Jug. This is one of the pots Norris is famous for. No one makes snake jugs like his. Very Life Like and Striking Appearance. This pot is almost a duplicate of the one featured in a recent news article about Otis Norris in the SC State NewsPaper . It is solid and well made. The colors are great. The pot is a greenish brown color and the snake is two shades of brown with green eyes. Very round heavy and solid. Last photo shows Mr. Norris (Otis's Father) holding snake recently found at the Norris home place. Hand made with local clay... a mixture of Bethune clay and Sandhills clay. Both are found just a short piece from the Otis Norris kiln. South Carolina Folk Art Pottery Pottery has been a tradition for hundreds of years in the Bethune/ Kershaw County area. Mr. Norris lived across the road from the famous Bethune Pottery as a child and met many of the lengendary potters. Later he owned the Bethune Pottery and has since sold it, building a new kiln just a few miles down the road. Located in between the three areas, Seagrove, Catawba and Edgefield, Kershaw County Pottery is often a blend of the three styles. Itinerant potters of years ago traveled between the areas bringing the styles and traditions together. Otis Norris has continued this tradition and added to it his own unique style.
