This is such a rare set of bookends and they are guaranteed old, genuine and original. I have collected bookends for over 19 years and have never had this set before. What makes these so rare is that they are solid copper and made by the Metalcraft Arts Products Company of Los Angeles, circa 1930. They have a label on their bases that states that name and HAND WROUGHT and SOLID COPPER. This company made so few bookends since it was only in existence for a few years before being wiped out by the Great Depression. I have seen other bookends similar to this one in casting but without the elaborate headband casting of the featd warbonnet, and the very deco lines of the face. And made of solid copper, rare indeed. They measure over 6 inches tall and weigh almost 8 pounds the pair. The finish is really glorious, a red gold bronze finish with excellent patina and completely intact. No damage and they display beautifully. Kuritzky shows a very similar pair of these in his antique bookend reference guide, "The Encylcopedia of Bookends", page 283, Plate 1977, and calls them YOUNG INDIAN CHIEF. He gives them a high rarity rating and dates them to 1925. These are much rarer, by this company, in solid copper, and with original label. Beautiful native american indian warrior bookends.
