From South Africa, A Natal Rebellion Medal with the 1906 Clasp to Sergeant Charles Dhlamini of the Natal Native Horse. Named on edge: "SGT: CHARLES DHLAMINI, NATAL NATIVE HORSE." Comes with an extract of the medal roll by D.R. Forsyth which confirms the medal and clasp. The armed and mounted unit of about 350 men was formed in February 1906 by Captain Robert Samuelson and recruited from the African population in the region around Pietermaritzburg. Dhlamini came from the township of Edendale. An account written by Samuelson of the Natal Native Horse during the Rebellion can be downloaded at: http://www.pmbhistory.co.za/portal/witnesshistory/custom_modules/Supplement_PDFs/History_of_the_Natal_Native_Horse.pdf . The medal is in reasonably good condition. There is significant wear and scuff marks. The edge is good with a few minor bumps. The swivel mount wobbles. The ribbon is a modern replacement. This medal is scarce. Dhlamini was one of 15 sergeants and overall relatively few medals issued to Africans have survived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ This item can be shipped by registered (signed-for) international airmail for $13.00.
