COUNTRY of ORIGIN : Spanish Monarchy --------------------------- 2. CONTEXT : The Order of Civil Merit (Orden del Mérito Civil) was instituted by King Alphonso XIII on 25 June 1926 to be awarded for outstanding meritorious service in the civil sphere. It was abolished by the Republic in 1931 and re-instituted by Generalissimo Franco on 7 November 1942. THIS Medal a pre-1931 version and is the Knight Class (Caballero). --------------------------- 3. ENGRAVER : no attribution --------------------------- 4. COMPOSITION : appears to be Gilt Silver and Enamel --------------------------- 5. MINTMARK(S) : none --------------------------- 6. CONDITION : Excellent – ribbon slightly dirty --------------------------- 7. DIMENSIONS : main medallion - 50 mm x 49 mm; with ribbon 118 mm long --------------------------- 8.
