This is a cartridge or ammunition belt for the Springfield Krag rifle, designed to hold 100 rounds of .30-40 ammo. It is unit marked to Company I, 13th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. It also has the number "26" stenciled on it, which I presume is a unit roster number. The 13th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry served in the Phillippines during the Spanish American War. Company I was from Minneapolis, and saw heavy action in the Phillippines during the Spanish American War. This belt is in great condition, with no damage besides normal wear and tear from use. The 13th MVI went ashore near Manila on August 7, 1898, and under the command of Major General Arthur MacArthur (Douglas MacArthur's dad), led the attack in the Battle of Manila. The 13th MVI was engaged in heavy combat during the battle, and had a greater number of casualties than all other the regiments combined. When the war ended, the 13th MVI was placed on police duty in Manila. However, they soon saw combat against Filipino guerrillas or insurgents in Manila, Malolos, and northern Luzon. They embarked for the United States on August 10, 1899, and were mustered out October 3rd.
