You are bidding on a fantastic original wooden ship relic from the Spanish cruiser "INFANTA MARIA TERESA" from the Spanish American War of 1898 . It is not a "made from" item. This is a very rare and original artifact from the actual ship which was destroyed during the sea battle off the coast of Santiago, Cuba. The "INFANTA MARIA TERESA" was the flagship of the Spanish naval commander - Admiral Pascual Cervera. This wooden artifact has an attached handwritten note which states that it was: "TAKEN FROM ICEBOX. TARESSA MARIE SPANISH GUNBOAT SUNK AT SANTIAGO. JULY 3, '98". This roughly triangular piece measures app. 5-3/4" across the top x 4-3/4" tall x 1-7/8" across the bottom x 6" across the diagonal. It is app. 3/4" thick. T is some of the original paint remaining which appears to be tan and white possibly. T is some evidence of shipworms so it is possible that this was recovered sometime after the naval battle. It is solid and will display very well. Actual pieces from Spanish cruisers do not come up very often and are quite rare. This piece is from an old Pennsylvania veteran's hall which closed some years ago. Don't miss out.
