This wonderful quilt was the creation of Regina Fischer who passed away last year in Florida. At the time of her death she was in her 90's and had moved to Florida from New York City several years ago. She was born in Germany in the 1920's. In her later years Regina loved to paint, make dolls and quilt - and she was known to be both meticulous and very creative. She completed this piece from an antique (1940-1945) quilt top in 1995. Regina annotated these details in one corner on the back of the quilt, also noting the unique type of cotton she used for the backing and part of the border on front. The size is 84 x 70 inches. With a precise average of 7-8 SPI, there is extensive hand quilting in varied patterns covering virtually every surface of the quilt up to the binding. From the back you can see that depending on the fabrics on front, some of the stitching was done with green thread, with other sections in a dark red color and others in white. The fabrics are all cotton. The batting is medium weight. The backing is natural color "Fox Cotton". (Google "Sally Fox" if you'd like to know more about this beautiful fabric!) The front of the quilt consists of 7 x 7 inch - 16 patch blocks with vintage fabrics alternating with spacer blocks and a border in a deep red and cream small floral print. In the four corners are 4 x 4 inch squares read more
