Mineralogical Research Measures: 4.8 cm x 2 cm x .7 cm Shipping Weight: 4 ounces This is an excellent cluster of glassy, Colorless BREWSTERITE crystals~! This captivating specimen is one of the rare zeolites. This rare Strontium Silicate only forms in a few locations. These Brewsterite crystals are pristine~!! They are sharp, colorless, translucent and textbook type crystals. As you turn this piece about, the crystals glisten ~! These crystals are blocky to prismatic and are similar in form to Tourmaline. The matrix is tan in color and only visible on the underside, while all the crystals formed on top. Without using magnification, you can easily see these gemmy crystals are well terminated~! The terminations are flat and just about as wide as the crystals are long. The widest termination is .4 cm while the longest crystal is .5 cm. Some crystals grew straight up while others lean at a 45 degree angle. The quality of the majority of these super rare Brewsterite crystals is remarkable~!! Note: Crystals along the sides and edges have minor dings. There are a few Pale Pink opaque areas; this is also Brewsterite. These crystals did not form as well and suffered damage. Unfortunately, while the Brewsterite crystals are absolutely stunning, the matrix is cracked and repaired. Luckily, the damage is only on the underside and did not affect the crystals~! Even with the matrix flaw, this rare Zeolite is difficult to find and not one to pass on. This specimen has an excellent provenance, coming from both the d’Esopo Collection who bought it from Mineralogical Research. The d’Esopo label is included with this auction. These are PRISTINE textbook Brewsterite crystals from a well-documented site. Minerals from this location and of this quality are difficult to find on the market. Don’t hesitate to add this rare species to your collection~! Education Time: The mineral Brewsterite was named after Sir David Brewster (1781-1868), Scottish scientist and mineralogist, who studied the optical properties of minerals and the element Strontium. He named the minerals Gmelinite and Levyne. This specimen came from the Fred d’Esopo Collection: Fred was an advanced upstate New York collector with a very large collection set up like a museum. We felt privileged that Fred selected us to purchase it in 2000. Although he is now deceased, we will remember him by his quiet demeanor and special love of minerals. He was the driving force behind the Utica Mineral Club, which is now defunct. We have fond memories of dipping corn-on-the-cob in mugs of beer on Saturday nights after the Utica Club Show~!! William Pinch, also from New York , provided Fred with many specimens. Fred’s collection evolved through the years from self-collected road-side trips to the fluorescents at Franklin New Jersey, to gorgeous aesthetic specimens, then later to unusual and the hard-to-find rare species.
