This a gorgeous Ursa Major model hunting knife that was made in 1990 by Washington state knifemaker Jeff Conti. Mr. Conti is a well known maker who is listed in all of the major knifemaker guides. He has been making knives professionally since 1980 and specializes in doing all of his own heat treating. This knife is marked as being Ursa Major number 001 and was made for someone by the name of Cornell Stull, whose name is etched on the blade. As I understand it, Mr. Conti is now only making commissioned pieces. The knife has a very thick blade that was beautifully ground from D2. The handle is hand carved from some type of burled hardwood. The wood is very dense and heavy and is rock-hard. The design lines are exceptional and the grind is simple perfection. The knife is perfectly balanced and feels outstanding in hand. This knife is everything a custom should be. The knife is unused and has never been sharpened, with just some scattered and very light storage scuffs. Knife has a 5" blade and measures 9-3/8" in overall length and the blade is about 1/4" thick. The craftsmanship is amazing and the knife is absolutely gorgeous. The pictures in this case, certainly do not do this piece justice.
