antique NEAPOLITAN MANDOLIN - DOMINICO SALVADORI quality antique instrument - needs new strings ==> SCROLL DOWN for BIG pictures! <== Make built by Dominico Salvadori, Naples, ca. 1920-'30. Original label still inside; maker's scorch-stamp 'Dom Salvadori - Napoli' on the soundboard (scroll down for BIG pictures) Description A very nice early 20th century mandolin by a well know Italian luthier. Superb Brasilian rosewood; walnut veneered headstock. Ebony bridge, bone nut. Bone tuning keys. Celluloid tortoiseshell scratchplate. Bowl constructed of 21 ribs (segments) plus the two endibs (sides). 17 frets. Overal length ca. 59.5 cm; scale (sounding string length) ca. 330mm. Item condition Beautiful antique in very nice condition for its age (scroll down for BIG pictures). No cracks in the soundboard or bowl; scratchplate is beginning to crack (not too difficult to replace, if desired). Tuning machines all work. The instrument is not currently in playable condition, but it wouldn't be difficult to bring it back to life and make it sing again! It needs new strings; and I suspect some adjustments to the height and position of the bridge will improve accuracy of intonation. Sold as-is.
