EarlyStaffordshire ABCPlate"Nations Of The World"Japanese1883Registry MarkApprox 7 3/8"DWeight 8.6oz. This is an exquisite ABC plate. Exceptional. Japanese "Nations of the World" series. The Japanese/Art Nouveau motif is fantastic. The plate is in superb condition and t are no unwarranted marks, chips, hairlines, or cracks that I can detect. Slight crazing and only a very light bit of staining on the back.Came from a wonderful auction held in the Midwest. Owners truly cared for this piece. Transferware is crisp, colours are vivid, and t are no apologies to be made to this piece. Love the rich chocolate brown tones, highlights of lavender on the kimono, and deep cobalt blue on the silk robe. Has fabulous Greek Key "plate within the plate" decoration. Scrolled and intertwined leaves and florals on one side of the rim. And of course, the artistic styling of the alphabet. Think this is a stunning piece of pearlware. Truly exceptional. A bit more unusual than traditional ABC child's plates. Is definitely old and authentic, and would make an exemplary addition to any collection of Staffordshire or collection of child's plates from a very exciting era.
